Gaming Floor and Casino Features
At Sibaya Casino, our doors never close. The casino is always running, split into both smoking and non-smoking areas. We have 1,207 slot machines here, including touch-bet Roulette machines. From old school three-reel slots to fast-action video slots, the selection covers it all. You’ll see clear signs on the floor showing where to find what type of slots. There are staff around as well - our gaming hosts are happy to give directions or help you get started anytime. Sibaya Casino is known to high rollers as the best Durban casino for placing bets, and the casino offers regular new casino promotions.
Table games aren’t just an afterthought here. Spread across the floor are 52 active tables. Take your pick: Roulette, classic Blackjack, Poker tables, familiar Baccarat or Call Card 52. Call Card 52 Games Rooms are located in: Main Floor non-smoking, Main Floor smoking, and Salon Privé (Private room). Each table shows the minimum and maximum bets on a sign. Table minimum bets start at R100 and R200. These limits will change depending on the time, busy nights mean higher limits. For those who like playing big, the Royal Court Salon Privé (Private room) is exclusive to Platinum and Diamond MVG cardholders, offering VIP service and higher stakes in a quieter setting. Here, the limits go up and the service is truly private.
We set aside about 40 percent of our space for non-smoking players. Different air systems and barriers keep smoke out, but you can move from one area to another - the only catch is, you can’t take a drink over that border.
Cash Services and ATMs
Getting cash is simple. There are three ATM locations: one right on the gaming floor, another in the hotel lobby, and one more close by. All work 24/7, giving out R100, R200, or R500 notes. Withdrawal limits come from your bank. Fees depend on what you agreed with your bank too.
For in-person help, our cash desk is available with extended hours. Here we can cash verified cheques, swap major foreign currency, or rent you a deposit box. If you need to make or get payments over R10,000, have your South African ID or passport ready.
| Service | Hours | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| ATM withdrawals | 24/7 | Valid bank card |
| Cash desk | Extended hours | ID needed over R10,000 |
| Currency exchange | Extended hours | Passport required |
Hit a jackpot of more than R25,000? We’ll need some quick paperwork for verification and tax. After that, our cash desk can pay you by cheque or bank transfer - expect your funds within three days after all checks.
Sun MVG Loyalty Programme
We’re hooked into the Sun MVG rewards scheme, which includes all Sun International casinos and hotels. To join, stop at our MVG counter (right by the main entrance) with your South African ID and contact info. You get your card right away.
At slots, insert your card before you play so points add up as you go. Playing at tables? Just hand your card to the pit boss before sitting down. Points are simple here: 1 point for every R10 bet at slots and 1 point for every R20 at tables.
Points turn into spendable rewards: meal vouchers, cheaper hotel rates, early theatre tickets, invitations to tournaments, loyalty level upgrades. To see your points, use any MVG kiosk or ask our hosts. Keep your account active to maintain your points balance.
Hotels
Two hotel options here, both connected to the casino. Sibaya Lodge has 102 rooms: standard, deluxe, suite options start from R1,200 per night. The Royal Sibaya Hotel is in its own separate building with 152 rooms - lots of suites with ocean views, starting from R1,800.
MVG members get attractive discounts, set up directly through the loyalty desk. Players with high points and turnover sometimes get comp rooms, just talk to our casino hosts.
All rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV, a minibar, coffee/tea set and private bathrooms. Ocean-facing rooms have balconies looking out to sea, with the beach nearby. Both hotels are linked indoors to the gaming area, easy walk in any weather.

Entertainment and Food
The iZulu Theatre is hard to miss - 577 seats under a big thatched dome, modern lighting and sound. Shows run most weeks Thursday to Saturday, with tickets from R150 to R800 depending on the act. MVG card holders can grab better seats before the big public rush.
Hungry or thirsty? We offer five dining options, from the main buffet (breakfast about R180, dinner R320) to smaller a la carte spots that need reservations on weekends. Use MVG points to cover your meal - 100 points equals R10 at almost every food spot. Krakotoa Show Bar features a dance floor, stage for revues, cabarets, live music, and an outdoor Boma.
On the casino floor, two bars hand out complimentary drinks if you’re playing. Hosts can bring them right to your slot or table too.

Ownership and Licensing
We’re owned by Sun International, a Johannesburg-based hospitality group since 1967. The casino licence is held by Afrisun KZN (Pty) Limited, with oversight from the KwaZulu-Natal Gaming and Betting Board (oversight authority). Out of all Greater Durban, only two casinos qualify for this licence.
Part of our profits benefit the local community: the Sibaya Community Trust holds a 9.3 percent stake. These dividends help local projects. The Trust started in April 1998, with its own independent watchdogs. Sibaya celebrates 28 years in the gambling industry with community give-back initiatives.
Jackpot Details
Slot machines here plug into progressive jackpots - some local, some run across the whole property. The biggest wins show up on overhead TVs in real time.
Durban’s largest historic win happened right here, R13 million (largest historic win in Durban, pending verification) paid to one guest. Big jackpots (over R100,000) mean you’ll need ID, tax forms, and a winner’s photo for records.
Every slot win is decided by a random number generator, so results don’t connect to what’s visible on the screen. We can’t cover problems with the system or technical display delays.
Architecture and Setting
Our entire complex takes inspiration from a Zulu kraal - “Sibaya” means this in Zulu. The main building stands under a large dome, with eight smaller pavilions branching off, all linked with walkways under cover. The interior has undergone a R44 million refurbishment to protect from KwaZulu-Natal heat.
Patterns on the floor, wall paintings, the lighting fixtures - all pull in local African tradition and craftsmanship. The iZulu Theatre’s huge thatched dome stands out: biggest roof of its kind, with 577 seats neatly laid out underneath thanks to modern support beams.
We’re set on 15 hectares of KwaZulu-Natal land, with most landscaping planted with indigenous plants. Walkways connect the hotel, casino, spa and conference centre, and plenty of benches outdoors for those ocean breezes.
